Data collection can be expensive. The sensors used in our IoT network are highly affordable compared to other solutions. The hardware comes at a lower cost, as the technology is unlicensed and can be produced by anyone. After deployment, the units can be left maintenance-free for 10-15 years before a battery change is necessary.
Long-range:
The low-power protocol LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) has been chosen as the primary protocol for Bredbåndsfylket’s IoT service. The LoRaWAN protocol enables the transmission of data over long distances with low power consumption and good penetration. This is ideal for demanding locations where the waves from the sensors must penetrate building mass, steel and other materials.
